To kick up the flavor of this gravy (and if you’re already cooking a turkey), consider adding some basting juice and drippings from your bird. It’ll give the gravy a bit more of a homemade taste.

We’re big fans of Thanksgiving – family, friends, food, [moderate] overeating – we love every bit of it. Every year we’re reminded just how much we love turkey, and we promise ourselves we’ll cook and eat more of it throughout the year. Sadly, we never follow through. Regardless, no turkey dinner is complete without gravy, and when convenience is key, you can’t do better than ready made.

So when it came time for our pre-Thanksgiving review feast, we made sure to pick up a carton of this ready-to-use Turkey Gravy to try out.

Our take? While this gravy is well-priced, tasty and good in a pinch, nothing beats homemade. Turkey gravy is relatively easy to make, and if you’re already cooking a turkey, you’ve got plenty of drippings to make your own killer gravy.

That said, we liked the flavor and convenience of this item. It cooked up in a few minutes, and the ingenious package opens without scissors or a lid! The gravy had a welcome, authentic turkey flavor and good consistency (though slightly more fluid than we’re used to) and it was a perfect addition to our Trader Joe’s All Natural Brined Turkey stuffed with Cornbread stuffing.

Point is, we approve – and we’d buy it again to keep in the pantry for a quick dressing or for those nights when dinner is a last minute affair.

  1. This gravy was terrible, tasted like jet fuel, the tarragon is too overwhelming.
